A member asked:

What effect does acetyl-l-carnitine have on the brain and nervous system?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Acetyl-L-carnitine as a supplement may benefit memory loss, mental tiredness and impaired thinking skills as seen with Alzheimer’s disease. It is taken for depression (although it may worsen bipolar disease). It may also reduce nerve pain associated with diabetes, although it is unlikely effective for nerve damage. Caution is advised with a history of seizures. Better studies are needed.
