A member asked:

Would a b-type natriuretic peptide levels be high if you had cardiomyopathy? i know it would be for heart failure. my b-type was 13. i have all the symptoms including edema?

Patients with chronic but stable cardiomyopathy may have normal pro bnp levels. Is 13 for a B-type bnp considered normal at the lab that checked yours? If your symptoms and edema were caused by congestive heart failure, your BNP should be elevated. A cardiologist could evaluate & advise you best.

Cardiomyopathy at your age is very rare. Discuss with your Dr. Many more causes of edema should be searched for. Almost always related to eating more salt than you body can pee out.
