In a person not exposed to HIV, there would be no antibodies or antigens present in the sample. HIV Ab/Ag presence with confirmation means that a persons body has been exposed to HIV and is fighting off the infection by producing antibodies. Antiretrovirals may be useful in this situation which are practically curative these days.
