A member asked:

Can the blood work afp at 16 weeks pregnant also show the baby gender?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

There is a cell free serum test that can be done on mothers blood as early as ~10 weeks called the NIPP. It can determine babies gender, but is not part of the routine pregnancy screening. It would be ordered separately and sent to a different lab. The AFP test does not show gender.
