Hurt my rib playing football, struck by an elbow. no x-ray taken, told to take pain meds. the rib now feels like there is a bump there, is this just the healing process? injury happened 1 month ago, still pain in the area and lying down hurts. thanks?

A resolving bruise or fracture may have occurred. If there was no direct force, a rib fracture is less likely. If you experience shortness of breath, evaluation for lung injury or a pulmonary condition is recommended. The area should be further evaluated by your physician, urgent care or a virtual consult with HT.
