A member asked:

What characteristics (i.e., type of pain, constancy, etc.) of an unilateral otalgia might point to pharyngeal carcinoma as opposed to a benign origin? this question is not considering coexisting symptoms like dysphagia?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Classic symptoms of throat cancer do include swallowing problems as well as persistent sore throat for over 2 weeks, and hoarseness can be a symptom as well. Although throat infections often cause radiation of pain to the ear,I haven't seen it with the pharyngeal cancers I've seen but I think it could occur.
