Can take a few days: Traditionl delayed-release proton pump inhibitors like pmepr sole can take up to 48-72 hrs to decrease acid production enough in the stomach for you to notice a difference.

Omeprazole: R u taking otc or rx dose? Have u changed your eating habits to avoid foods/drinks that trigger symproms? Normally Omeprazole starts to work w/i an hour, peaks at 2-3 hrs, & lasts up to 24 hrs. Could use otc h2 blocker like zantac/axid/pepcid short term to relieve break-through symptoms. If u haven't seen doc, get checked to learn what's causing pain; may be more than heartburn (ulcer, etc).
