I was prescribed benzonatate 200mg for severe cough keeping me awake at night. it has lessened the severity of my cough but im still coughing all through the night and getting no sleep for the past 4 nights. what else can be prescribed? i need rest?

First of all, please go back and ask your doctor for his recommendation. In the mean time try using extra pillows and propping your self up to sleep until you are over the worst of the coughing. Best wishes.

You can try Mucinex DM along with Benzonatate before bedtime because these 2 medications suppress cough differently. Cough due to viral respiratory infection can last for weeks but it usually gets better by time. If cough gets worse and you develop fever and chest pain with deep inspiration, you may have bacterial infection and treatment with antibiotic(s) may be necessary.
