Depends: B.Pertussis produces a bronchitis like process in adults similar to many viral or other bacterial agents. It has been called the "100 days cough" by some. It may tend to cause more soupy mucous than other bugs but for adults even with COPD it should be manageable. The agent is deadly in small babies who dround in the mucous & cough their way to brain damage.

Yes: A persistent cough could cause a pulled muscle in back muscles or in the muscles in between the ribs. This will definitely cause pain.

Eye Itch: The combination of cough and eye itching may signal some sort of allergic response. Go to your primary doctor to be checked for asthma and seasonal or chronic allergies. Itchy eyes are often a symptom of allergic conjunctivitis which may be treated with Pataday or zaditor, (ketotifen) or of blepharitis, an inflammation of the eyelids and lashes, which is treated with lid scrubs, compresses, and antibiotic.

Treats the disease: If you are referring to polymyalgia rheumatica, steroids treat the underlying inflammatory process which results in resolution of your pain. Over time your disease should go away. Steroids do not fight infection and in fact can make infections worse.

Many things: Many diseases could cause those symptoms including viral, bacterial and fungal infections, sarcoidosis, wegener's granulomatosis, malignancy, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, churg-strauss vasculitis, etc. You should see your doctor to begin a work up.
