Dubious science: No two people's brains are the same. Mozart was once promoted based on some "soft" science. Music is a potent distractor and when a student in academic difficulty tells me that he/she studies with music, i question that person's seriousness. I've spent a lifetime trying to find quiet, music-free places to study, and i'd urge you to turn it all off and see if you don't focus better.

Not necessarily: Probably depends partly on type of music u like, but baroque, classical, new age come to mind as more relaxing. There r also albums of brain wave recordings, some of which r specifically for enhancing concentration. Ask your parents before trying those brain wave recordings. Meditation &/or biofeedback may help, too. Consider being tested for add/adhd.

Familiar music.: Familiar music tends to help one concentrate as (1) it’s enjoyable and (2) it tends to fade into the background so it facilitates rather than distracts.
