HSV I and II can be interchanged between oral origins to genital locations by sexual related contacts. "Outbreaks" are irregular, but can be increased with stressful stimuli (work, emotional, school, COVID, etc.). HSV is very contagious, and even w/o documented outbreaks and testing, can be "dormant" , but residing in nuclei of cells.
