A member asked:

My son's doctor said he was anemic and prescribed him 4ml of liquid iron, which equals him ingesting 60mg. he said his hemoglobin was at an 8, but did not give me a paper printout. i was told 60mg of iron can cause poisoning. he is 9months old?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

There are several liquid iron preparations available for use. In general the available (absorbed & used) iron content is about 1/5 of the dose. Without the kids weight and the actual product used it is difficult to comment on your concern. The amount prescribed for anemia would be much different than for everyday use. eight is a worrisome hemoglobin level. You are welcome to start over.
