Likely has been present lifelong, but whether this correlates with any symptoms or problems cannot be answered on this public education site. You could discuss with your local doctor, or have the situation addressed via a virtual consult on the paid portion of this site (www.connect@healthtap.com).

Hi, that’s a good ? and you should begin by discussing with the doctor that ordered the MR. The degree of symptoms correlate to the degree of tonsillar ectopia. The most common symptom is headache and is often associated with straining, coughing, or sneezing. If you are symptomatic your doctor will have u see a neurosurgeon that can offer treatment options. Good luck!
