Actually it is the opposite. Lower Estrogen levels relative to progesterone can cause elevations of basal body temperature. In menopause, drops in estrogen cause Hot Flashes. There can be many reasons for an elevated basal body temperature that do not correlate to reproductive hormones including hyperthyroidism, infection, obesity, autoimmune diseases, cancer, and anemia.
