A member asked:

I wore condom without any slippage nor breakage. i know my risk is pretty low but i want to feel safe as soon as possible. when is the soonest time to get the test result for hiv and syphilis?

The sooner, the less certain. Earliest would be 5-7 days but that is often false negative. Get tested ~1 month after episode. If VERY concerned get tested 3 months post-exposure. If that’s negative you can be certain your negative

Agree with Dr. Lentneck. However, HIV and syphilis are not the only infections you at risk for. HSV and HPV are not prevented by using a condom. It would be prudent to see your doctor for an evaluation, especially if the sex was with a sex worker or promiscuous woman. Get HPV vaccine.
