A member asked:

F, 24, philippines. i had severe dysmenorrhea, so i decided to go back to taking birth control pills (micropil) on the very 1st day of my period after stopping for almost a year. 1st day was on aug 23, its been 10 days since and i'm still bleeding?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

When oral contraceptives are started, it is not unusual to have breakthrough bleeding especially in the first 3 months, it happens in more than 10% of patients. It is not dangerous and it does not mean the pill is not working. Usually it self corrects over time. If it continues to happen consider using a different birth control method.
