A member asked:

Can a hysterectomy of cervix completely remove any chance of cervical cancer?

Hysterectomy is surgical excision of the uterus (including the cervix). If your prior pap smears were benign, removal of the cervix will prevent future cervical cancer. See your GYN physician for regular checks of your genital anatomy, as other types of abnormal cells can arise on the vulvo-vaginal area.

Agree with Dr. Berryman. If your uterus, including the cervix, is removed before you have cervical cancer, you will not get cervical cancer. Wish you good health!
