My 6 week-old baby girl has stomach pain since 2 week of age. she's 7 weeks premature. she is on gas drops and liquid omeprazole. since starting omeprazole her poop turned green and watery like diarrhea. bad reflux as well. what could be the reason?

The color of poop is produced 1st by the ultra green bile added in transit. It changes through greens to yellows to brown depending on time in digestion & action of gut germs. Green just means it moved through faster (watery too). Some infants use their breathing/fussing muscle to help push poop along since their belly muscles are weak. It improves when they get stronger.

Even though she is premature, she may still receive breast milk. Discuss formula options and banked breast milk, an infant probiotic and treatment options for her reflux. Many infants improve over time, with good nutrition and medical care. Vaccination schedule should be kept updated and growth monitored. A virtual consult with Healthtap is available.
