A member asked:

Is there a way to remove harmful chemicals/particles from lungs to avoid long term damage?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It is built into the lungs protective mechanisms. There is a continuous flow of particle capturing mucus from glands in the tissue that move it up to the center/top where it makes it into the swallow tube where it is swallowed or it is coughed out. You can overwhelm that system by constant exposure/bad habits(smoking) but it works well. Consult a pulmonologist for specific needs.
