I want to donate my bone marrow but someone said it would be a waste and would be painful. i want to help people though. would they match me with someone first and then i would have the surgery?

Waste ??? They would not line this up like a blood donation where it is easy to match & many can use the same unit. Matches are difficult to come by & the procedure only set up if they have someone in need. I would say that someone is a jerk who has little understanding of what they are talking about.

Surgery is not need for bone marrow stem cell transplantation. Stem cells can be collected from peripheral blood in an out-patient procedure. No need to make holes in bones.
