I have hsv-2 for many years and have an outbreak now on my anus. i have been having some nerve/muscle pain in my legs since about a day before the outbreak. can the herpes virus cause these kinds of symptoms?

Your genital (and anal) herpes probably isn't the cause. Some persons with HSV2 report such symptoms, but few herpes experts believe HSV2 is the cause. Neurological symptoms that precede outbreaks generally are limited to the area where the outbreak occurs, and not distant anatomic sites.
