Some normal women occasionally skip a cycle or 2 before resuming their usual pattern. If the delay lasts longer than 90 days some OBGYN's might offer you meds to bring on a cycle. Delays due to pregnancy will trigger a positive urine pregnancy test. No ultrasound is needed unless the doc chooses to do one.

Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time. You may consider implanted contraceptive or an IUD.
