Good question! Evidence is still being collected re: how long immunity lasts after COVID infection (& it is uncertain how long it lasts after vaccine as well). Most experts recommend patients who have COVID wait 3-4 months after recovery & then get vaccinated.

Consider that we have study data indicating outcomes after vaccination. We do not have good information on protection following the infection. It is likely that immunization will boost protection in someone who has been infected previously; it is unlikely to cause events any different from a previously uninfected individual. Waiting for 90 days makes a dose available to another person.
