See below: This something that i would discuss with your nephrologist (kidney doc) or urologist. If she has reflux, it may help but i'm not a personal fan of long term Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) due to the allergy risk and that fact that is is one of our last line drugs for MRSA - so, i like to hold it for special situation, of which this may be appropriate per your specialist.

Standard therapy: Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is a standard therapy for bladder reflux starting after 2 months of age and used as needed. It's ease of storage and use trumps Amoxicillin and it is more palatable than the furadantin. It has been used in this fashion for UTI suppression for decades and is commonly used long term.There is some controversy about how long to continue meds. Discuss with your doc.
