Female in her 80s broke her wrist. she needs to have a surgery (metal plate & screws). she has osteoporosis. no other health problems. what are the risks of radius & ulna surgery for her age? any complications like bleeding or blood clot later?

If you have confidence in the Orthopedic Surgeon then it is important for her to have the surgery so that the bones will heal properly. If you are not confident with your Doctor please see another for a second opinion.

Wrist fractures are common in the elderly. As is surgery to treat the fractures. Bleeding can occur after any surgery, but bleeding and blood clots are not common complications after wrist surgery. Discuss with your surgeon, the expected possible risks for this patient.
