A member asked:

I have rather large bowel movements sometimes it's from constipation, but in general i just go rather large. would this have a connection to very low back pain such as the l5-s1 area. possibly exacerbating an existing condition?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Having large bowel movements has nothing to do with your spine and would not be caused by problems with your back. However, if there is pathology in the L5-S1 area, bearing down to evacuate a large bowel movement can produce back pain by increasing intraspinous pressures in that region.
