Possibly: The point is that every symptom is connected, like "alarm bells" ringing in a complex system. It is not that the GI symptoms cause the disc. They are simply a demonstration of your overall poor health. The tie in could easily be diet since that provides the fuel that enable all your cells to function properly. That is why alternative medicine is growing.

In a way: The constipation probably did not cause the herniation all by itself. Disk degenerative (and herniation) can occur in your age group (more common in those about 10 or more years older), and is not rare. The constipation may have caused you to strain, and that could have aggravated the rupture or caused a degenerated disk to rupture (herniate).

No: Narotics taken for the pain can cause constipation but not directly related.
