By far most important is to be on treatment with one of the oral anti-herpes drugs (valacyclovir or acyclovir), with expected improvement within 2-3 days. Until then, a local anesthetic ointment (ideally lidocaine) will help. Also make sure the diagnosis is correct; you should be in a doctor's care. Good luck.
