A member asked:

Can facet arthritis and its inflammation cause sciatica down both legs to calves?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Sciatic pain can be caused by impingement of a nerve root emanating from an intervertebral by a bulging or herniated disc It can also infrequently be caused by a primary inflammation of the sciatic nerve. Facet arthritis wouldn't affect the sciatic nerve but would usually cause predominantly back pain.
