A member asked:

On my dads side, one 2nd degree and one 3rd degree relative died young of brain aneurysms(females ages 38, 42). does that warrant continuous screening for me? my last mri was normal 8 years ago?

I've never even been able to get a solid answer about how often to screen first degree relatives, but I'm certain most neurologists or neurosurgeons will not advise repeat screenings when only 2nd and 3rd degree relatives had aneurysms. The main advice is to avoid smoking and make sure your blood pressure is not elevated.

IF THE ANEURYSMS OCCURED ON YOUR FATHERS OR MOTHERS SIDE,BROTHERS OR SISTERS[AUNT-UNCLE] THAN YOUR DNA IS UNDER SCRUTINY. CONSULT WITH YOUR CARDIOLOGIST ANNUALLY. DISTANT RELATIVES ARE NOT AS CONCERNING.
