When the nail plate (hard and shiny part of fingernail) comes off, it takes about 3 months for a new nail to grow from start to finish. While the nail bed (exposed when nail plate fell off) can be sensitive, it is okay to leave it exposed to air. If you are at risk of getting it dirty, cover it with a Band-Aid. If there was damage to the nail bed, the nail may have grooving when it regrows.

See a licensed manicurist. If damage is extensive y9ou may have to see a skin (nail) specialist, a Dermatologist. Don't delay.
