The germ for these cold sores is well known for hibernating/resurfacing in the same place for a while & then retreating back into hibernation when your immune system suppresses it. It is not like the germs of strep or staph that you can spread everywhere by casual contact. You could spread it to other uninfected people during a flare up but not to your other body parts,your immune system blocks it
