Yes, you would have had some low degree of radiation exposure by being in the room during a CT. It is a lesser amount than the patient would receive. Always, for any medical X-ray/radiation exposure, the risk of undergoing the scan vs the benefit of the information gained by the scan is weighed.

This sounds unusual to me. The amount of radiation you would receive would be unlikely to cause damage, especially if in the past. I recommend bringing children with imaging needs to a children's hospital whenever possible. You are likely to have a study that minimizes radiation dose, and minimizes exposure to all concerned.
