Paint my new house every weekend & has very little ventilation. sand the walls, then paint. this is the 2nd monday after painting i have a sore/dry throat & phlegm that i cant get out. the uncomfortable phlegm triggers my gag reflex. is that common?

It is sanding rather than painting that is likely to be the isuse. Old houses have lead paint and sanding that could create lead laden dust. Get the paint tested for lead. Contact your county health department for assistance. You may be able to buy a kit at a hardware store to test it yourself. Wish you good health!
