Husband to have a balloon angioplasty. he has been hypertensive for a number of years; only just started bp meds 6 mo ago. how great a risk is this procedure & what should i prepare for? (his dr. wouldn't answer this question, just said wait and see?

Surprised that your doctor did not put your mind at ease by by answering your questions. The risk of this procedure depends on how complex the blockage are, which vessels are affected , coexisting problems adding to the complexity such as calcification, any kidney problems etc. Also whether this is a single artery or multiple vessels. These facts are only available to your doctor. Please discuss.

Your husband is at risk for post angiplasty procedures. Your physician will assist you in further information. There are risks in requiring immediate cardiac surgery during the procedure, to include also strokes or pulmonary embolism. you need to spend more time with your physician.
