A member asked:

Do oral contraceptives raise cortisol levels?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes . The oestrogen in the contraceptive pills increases the level of a special blood protein called cortisol binding globulin , which causes an increase in the total cortisol level. This is dependent on the dose of oestrogen in the pill , and is mainly seen with high dose oestrogen pills with more than 0.1mg of mestranol , and not in the progesterone only or the ones with low dose oestrogen.
