This is actually more controversial than portrayed in the media, as immunity is conferred by the infection itself, and may last several months to a year. The vaccine appears to provide longer lasting antibodies, but there is not uniform agreement whether it is absolutely necessary in those who have had COVID. CDC says get vaccinated. Some doctors in NYC disagree.
