Open wounds should be treated with triple antibiotic ointment and covered with a nonstick pad sealed around the edges or if on an extremity, wrap gauze around it. The wound should be gently washed when you bathe daily, and rebandaged. Keeping the wound moist with ointment and covered will also allow it to heal with less scarring.
