A member asked:

My last menstrual period was in april and i took a pregnancy test 3days ago, which came out positive. i woke up with bad cramping and started bleeding. is this a result of a miscarriage? should i make an appointment to be seen?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

With no period since April, and a positive pregnancy test, cramping and bleeding may be caused by an early miscarriage, or inadequate progesterone from the placenta. See your gyn provider for an exam and other testing , including an ultrasound and a quantitative HCG blood test. Pregnancy outside the uterus is also possible (ectopic).
