There are several possibilities. You could have an acute bronchitis-either bacterial or viral (fever? change in color of sputum?). You could have pneumonia so hopefully a chest x-ray ruled that out. You could also have bronchospasm with airway inflammation that can occur after a bronchitis infection and result in continued cough, sputum, etc.This would improve w/bronchodilator and steroid inhalers

Any cough lasting longer than 2 weeks warrants investigation. It would be preferable to see a pulmonologist. Wish you good health!
