Actually doxycycline can be used to treat colitis because of it's anti-inflammatory properties. Dermatologist have prescribed doxycyline for patient for years to treat acne long term.

You don't mention the type of colitis you have. Is it inflammatory bowel disease like ulcerative colitis or is it irritable bowel syndrome? You don't mention the dose of doxy or length of the treatment. Many acne patients have taken full strength doxy for several weeks without incident although it could cause diarrhea. Your MD or gastroenterologist, who knows you well, is best to advise you.
