All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, this is not a usual test for diagnosing or monitoring any health issue in a person who does not have an inherited disorder of amino acid metabolism. Wish you good health!

My first question would be: why did you get a carnitine test in the first place, as this is not a common test that is ordered. Do you have issues with your heart, or skeletal muscle weakness, or did you have a history of a genetic disorder associated with hypoglycemia in infancy? Total carnitine is the sum of free and acyl carnitine. Carnitine replacement may be all that you need.
