It is difficult to say without seeing her ribs but there is a condition called costochondritis-which is inflammation of the cartilage between the ribs. It can lead to swelling as well as chest wall pain. It can be treated locally with either heat or cold, whichever feels better, and NSAIDS, like ibuprofen. If it doesn’t feel better after a few days , or worsens, then see a doctor. Best of luck!

"Ribs are getting bigger" can mean different things. For example, it might mean getting bigger at the cartilage end, bigger in the middle bony rib area, bigger in only one rib, bigger in several or all ribs, etc. Anyway, in addition to rib cartilage inflammation mentioned in another answer, other causes include disorders with vitamin D, or with bone marrow and blood cells. One's doctor can help.
