HSV (herpes simplex virus) can cause infections of the lips: cold sores (HSV1) or genitalia: small ulcerations (HSV2). Both of these are transmissible via direct contact such as kissing or sexual activity, but they are location specific. Cold sores and genital herpes can be treated with antivirals, but it is never completely cured as the virus can "hide" in nerve cells and reoccur during stress.
