A member asked:

If i have been going to my pediatrician since i was born, and recieving regular annual blood tests, would i know if i have familial adenomatous polyposis or lynch syndrome?

Not from simple blood tests. The disorder is passed as a dominant genetic trait (requires only one gene from one parent). There are specific tests that look for the 4 or so mutations noted that can trigger this process in a lifetime. The specific tests are done at specialized labs scattered around the world. If you have a parent with this problem discuss it with your doc.

There are specific DNA tests for diagnosing this condition and if family history indicates, your doctor can order the test. Wish you good health!
