A member asked:

Just had a question about my celiac disease. i read that mortality rate goes up. i have been worrying a lot. i was diagnosed at 19, and probably only had it active for about 5-6 years. i also stick to eating gf. is my life span still shortened?

I would not worry about celiac altering your longevity. You are statistically more likely to die in a car crash than from the effects of CD. The disorder is linked to a few autoimmune issues & rare cancer but strict avoidance of gluten reduces your chance of all related problems. Those who do not recognize the disorder likely represent the main group suffering long term consequences.
