A member asked:

Why is it uncommon for a 10 year old child to get melanoma?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Melanoma risk is increased by excessive sun exposure, particularly a history of significant sunburns. Children have not yet acquired sufficient exposure to be at risk for melanoma. The exception would be those children born with a giant Nevis, which can spontaneously become malignant melanoma.
