Going to start cymbalta 30 mg. i don't want to stay on it for a long time. what is the process the doctor will take me through to get off of the medication? she did not explain how she would wean me off of it. i am nervous about the withdrawal?

To wean off gradually reduce the dosage with a week at each level. 30;25:20 ,15 and then finish. Good Luck

Why have you already decided to get off the drug before you even get on it? What are you afraid of? Cymbalta isn't like an opiate that causes physical dependence. Are you afraid that if you feel better, it's not real because you need a pill to do so? Forget it. People who respond to antidepressants don't care if it's a pill that's doing it. Feeling happier is its own reward.

I'm so sorry you are worried about the medication. It is best to ask what the treatment goal is, then to reach that goal before we consider how to stop the medication! One thing at a time. Keep your communication with your doctor open when you reach that point, and be sure that s/he knows your concern about stopping. Good luck and good health.
