Can synthetic mesh used in inguinal hernia repair become infected a 17months post op, what would the typical symptoms be, and what's the best way to image an infected mesh or other mesh-related complications?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Absolutely. Uncommon but certainly can occur many months or even years after the repair. Typical symptoms would include redness Pain or swelling over the hernia site, perhaps including drainage. Need to see original surgeon or infectious disease doctor.
