Is it rare to get a fever with food poisoning? my husband had about 9 hours of diarrhea with a fever in the same night. he had mildly sick after eating some chicken the day before. his fever got to around 100.5 and was gone the next morning. thanks?

It depends on the cause of food poisoning. Preformed staphylococcal cause diarrhea and vomiting without causing fever. Dehydration resulting from fluid loss can result in fever. Infection with live shigella and salmonella bacteria also cause food poisoning that is usually accompanied by fever.
